A. No charge will be made for the weight of any pallets,
platforms, racks or skids loaded in a container
tendered at CY moving under weight or measurement
rates, provided that the weight of such pallets, etc.,
does not exceed five percent (5%) of the total weight
within the container. If the weight of the pallets,
platforms, racks or skids exceeds five percent (5%)
of the total weight within the container, the weight
in excess of that five percent will be rated under the
applicable rate item and Rule 645 will apply if
otherwise applicable. Shipper must specify the weight
of lading in each container and must specify the weight
of the pallets, platforms, racks or skids on the
shipping order or Bill of Lading at time of tender.
Failure to declare these weights at time of tender will
subject the shipment to the same provisions and
penalties of Rule 442 as that Rule pertains to cargo
declarations, should an attempt be made later to modify
the shipping documents so that the pallet or dunnage
allowances of this Rule would be applied.
B. When shipments stowed on pallets are tendered to
Carrier at CFS, freight charges will be assessed on
the gross weight or actual overall measurement of the
three greatest outside dimensions of the cargo as
received by Carrier including the pallets or platform,
strapping, top, and side or edge protection or
dunnage; and all other packing material (partitions,
liners, pads, racks or strips between layers or tiers)
used by Shipper for the protection or securing of the
cargo.
