I. - Application of Rates
A. Rates in this Rule apply only on Cargo having an
immediate prior to or subsequent movement on vessels
operated by the Carrier and which is loaded or unloaded
at the Port of Oakland. Wharfage is solely the charge
for the use of wharves or wharf premises and does not
include charges for any other service or facility.
B. Except as otherwise provided, the rates named are in
dollars per specific container size. All items not
specifically noted shall be assessed wharfage at the
Port Cargo, NOS Wharfage Rate. Wharfage is not subject
to minimums which may be specified within the individual
freight rates (With Commodity Numbers 02XX-XX-XXXX,
03XX-XX-XXXX, 08XX-XX-XXXX)
II.- Cargo Vans (Containers) - Definition
A single, rigid, nondisposable container without wheels
or bogies attached having not less than 135 cubic foot
capacity, having a door or closure that allows ready
access to the cargo and having construction, fittings
and fastenings able to withstand, without permanent
distortion, all stresses that may be applied in normal
service use continuous transportation.
III. - LTL Cargo
LTL Cargo shall be rated at the Cargo, NOS, 20' per
container rate.
IV. - Transshipment Cargo
Transshipped cargo discharged at one Port of Oakland
terminal facility and directly reloaded to a vessel at
the same or another Port of Oakland terminal will be
assessed the applicable wharfage at the initial
discharge only. When transshipment is substituted for
direct call of vessel, the charges on cargo so handled
will be the same as that applicable to cargo handled on
direct call.
V. - Mixed Shipments
When two or more commodities which have different rate
applications are mixed in one container, the highest
wharfage level of any commodity in the mixture will apply
to the entire container.

NOTE 1: As an exception to V above, Container must contain
at least two different commodities each of which is
manifested on a (1) weight or (2) measure basis. A
commodity will constitute a different commodity when it is
rated in a separate item in Carrier's tariff.
